The Dairy

Treathro Farm & Cottage, Pembrokeshire

GENERAL INFORMATION

Staying at The Dairy gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the amazing scenery, with access to a multitude of stunning coastal walks and activities, returning to a warm, hospitable and practical base.  Strumble Head (Pen Caer) itself is a glorious wild stretch of the North Pembrokeshire coastal path and has been rated by the National Geographic Magazine as one of the world’s greatest walks.  It is one of the best sites in Britain to view porpoise, dolphins, seals which on occasion can be spotted in the tidal races around the headland using binoculars. There small ‘secret’ coves to discover including Pwll Arian (Silver Cove), Porth Maenmelyn and Pwll Deri where seals play – a walkers, naturalists, photographers and bird watchers paradise.

The coastal path is a short walk away down the private farm track, from where there is easy access to whole of the spectacular north Pembrokeshire coastline from the beautiful blue flag beach of Whitesands in St Davids to the harbour town of Fishguard and further north to Newport. The area is ideal for activities for all ages – surfing, sea fishing, horse riding and golf courses are all available in the near vicinity, as well as boat trips to Ramsey (bird watching) and Caldey Island.  This area is renowned for the quality of light and is a wonderful place for artists and photographers.   There is a good leisure centre, independent bookshop and small independent cinema in Fishguard for those rainy days!

THE DAIRY

This converted dairy makes up one side of the original old farmyard.  It has outstanding views through the huge gable end window over farmland and sea.  The renovation has retained the character of the barn but with a modern twist – white washed walls, vaulted ceilings and  exposed beams. The whole barn is on one level laid with porcelain slate coloured tiles. A range of games, books, DVDs and CDs are available on request for evenings and wet days.   Linen, towels and beach towels are included along with a basket of logs for the woodburner.  A welcome hamper is included containing locally sourced food.  The Dairy is close to the main house and has it’s own entrance and private enclosed garden.

There is an adjacent farm utility room with extra shower/wc/laundry facilities, good for drying dirty dogs and wet clothes/boots. It can also be used to securely store bikes, surfboards and golf clubs.

We do welcome well behaved dogs on the understanding that as this is a working farm they should be on the lead at all times until on the coastal path.  This is a ten minute walk along our private farm track .  Please note we have some farm cats who will keep out of the way but may be around sometimes and our own two dogs who have free range of the farm.

Please be aware there is no mobile signal (from any provider) in the property or on most of the farm.  However it is possible to make calls whilst inside using WiFi Calling or What’s App.  There is a landline for incoming and local calls.  The internet here is not fast but is adequate for most tasks.

A travel cot, high chair and fireguard are available on request.

Absolutely sensational place to stay – first class. We have stayed in many places but this really is our number one! Debbie and David are amazing hosts and go out of their way to ensure your stay is the best and it certainly is. The location is breathtaking and the coastal path is a 10 minute walk away. It is a beautiful place in Pembrokeshire which will take your breath away. We really didn’t want to leave and will definitely return. A huge thank you to the hosts for providing such a beautiful cottage in a fantastic location with such wonderful home comforts. The views from the huge living room window extends across the fields to the lighthouse which is about a mile away and beyond onto the open Irish Sea. It is a wonderful place to sit, look and relax. The dairy was absolutely perfect for our weekend getaway and exceeded expectation in terms of it’s position and facilities. The property was extremely clean and communication/hospitality from Debbie and David was just right. The view is spectacular and you can walk straight from your door onto the coastal path which was a real highlight. The accommodation was really comfortable and every detail has been thought of. If you are looking to get away from it all this is a fantastic choice. September 2020

We had a wonderful week at Treathro. The Dairy is a fantastic holiday property- so comfortable and absolutely immaculate. Debbie and David were lovely- very friendly and helpful. We enjoyed exploring the area – lots of coastal path walks with stunning views, seals, coasteering, llama treks, iron age village etc. The weather was even good enough for a barbecue. Thanks so much. Can’t wait for our next visit. September 2020

Treathro Farm is a special place in a spectacular location. Debbie and David’s mix of tasteful, quality accommodation fits perfectly in the setting of a very relaxed working farm. The hosts are attentive but afford much privacy. Facilities, fixtures and fittings are high quality and the place was immaculately clean, something we rarely find in holiday lets. Highly recommended. We have had such a very lovely holiday, the surroundings and accommodation could not have been better. We were comfortable throughout, with very peaceful surroundings and the farm activities allowing us to see what we both enjoy so much (without having to do the work!!). The grassland looked fantastic and the cattle so happy! We are missing the sunset tonight, and only wished we had got more swimming in now we are back inland!!! July 2020

The Dairy is a special, beautiful place to stay. A lovely welcome and little things do stand out in exceptional places, here it was a bowl of water ready for our dogs when we arrived, a personalised note from Debbie and David and home made Bara Brith, a Welsh cake, along with other goodies. The accommodation is of the highest standard. Along with the location near Strumble Head, we could not of wished for better. Thank you. 20-23 Feb 2020

It’s hard to describe how stunning this place is. I wish I didn’t have to leave. With epic of views of the lighthouse, sea, animals and sky. Several walks from the door. The coastal path is right there and just the most gorgeous and magical stretch of land. Coastal ponies. The weather changes and it’s like a new place daily. The dairy is so beautifully designed as well. I was more than comfortable and was inspired to write some music. The welcome basket rules and I loved the bara brith bread and homemade jam! Car recommended. Debbie and David were both friendly and accommodating. Can’t recommend this stay enough. Feb 2020

The location is simply stunning – amazing views out to the coast from the living room area. And the walks along the coast are amazing. The place is immaculately done out – everything feels really modern but also keeping the original feel of a barn with the exposed beams. We stayed for a week and had a great time. Great hosts too – they went out of their way to make us feel very welcome with little touches like an amended vegan welcome pack. Diolch yn fawr.

We have just got back from the most relaxing weekend. The location is stunning, we actually spent the first few minutes glued to the view from the lounge. Debbie and David have got above and beyond to make the dairy a home away from home with lovely little touches like a welcome hamper and amenities just like in a hotel. The place was spotless and stylishly designed with quality furnishings. The location was so peaceful and it was a perfect break from family life. We will definitely be back. November 2019

“Wow, what a great spot.We had a lovely weekend in Debbie and David’s old dairy on the farm. The building has been restored to keep its character and create a lovely, comfortable place to stay with an amazing view over the fields to the sea. We wanted to explore this beautiful part of Wales and walk part of the coast path and it was the perfect spot. It was easy to get to the coast path and we walked to the Strumble Head lighthouse on Saturday and to a very tasty cafe in a woollen mill on Sunday, sadly the mill only works on weekdays but we still enjoyed a lovely lunch. We enjoyed our chats with Debbie and David, they gave us lots of useful info but didn’t intrude on our break. They pointed us in the direction of the local fish and chip shop in Fishguard which has very deservedly been nominated as one of the top ten in the UK! Everything was as described in the Airbnb post and better. We’ll be back.” A & R, Oct 2019
