The Dairy

Treathro Farm & Cottage, Pembrokeshire

GENERAL INFORMATION

Staying at The Dairy gives you the opportunity to immerse yourself in the amazing scenery, with access to a multitude of stunning coastal walks and activities, returning to a warm, hospitable and practical base.  Strumble Head (Pen Caer) itself is a glorious wild stretch of the North Pembrokeshire coastal path and has been rated by the National Geographic Magazine as one of the world’s greatest walks.  It is one of the best sites in Britain to view porpoise, dolphins, seals which on occasion can be spotted in the tidal races around the headland using binoculars. There small ‘secret’ coves to discover including Pwll Arian (Silver Cove), Porth Maenmelyn and Pwll Deri where seals play – a walkers, naturalists, photographers and bird watchers paradise.

The coastal path is a short walk away down the private farm track, from where there is easy access to whole of the spectacular north Pembrokeshire coastline from the beautiful blue flag beach of Whitesands in St Davids to the harbour town of Fishguard and further north to Newport. The area is ideal for activities for all ages – surfing, sea fishing, horse riding and golf courses are all available in the near vicinity, as well as boat trips to Ramsey (bird watching) and Caldey Island.  This area is renowned for the quality of light and is a wonderful place for artists and photographers.   There is a good leisure centre, independent bookshop and small independent cinema in Fishguard for those rainy days!

THE DAIRY

This converted dairy makes up one side of the original old farmyard.  It has outstanding views through the huge gable end window over farmland and sea.  The renovation has retained the character of the barn but with a modern twist – white washed walls, vaulted ceilings and  exposed beams. The whole barn is on one level laid with porcelain slate coloured tiles. A range of games, books, DVDs and CDs are available on request for evenings and wet days.   Linen, towels and beach towels are included along with a basket of logs for the woodburner.  A welcome hamper is included containing locally sourced food.  The Dairy is close to the main house and has it’s own entrance and private enclosed garden.

There is an adjacent farm utility room with extra shower/wc/laundry facilities, good for drying dirty dogs and wet clothes/boots. It can also be used to securely store bikes, surfboards and golf clubs.

We do welcome well behaved dogs on the understanding that as this is a working farm they should be on the lead at all times.  This is a ten minute walk along our private farm track .  Please note we have some farm cats who will keep out of the way but may be around sometimes and our own two dogs who have free range of the farm.

Please be aware there is no mobile signal (from any provider) in the property or on most of the farm.  However it is possible to make calls whilst inside using WiFi Calling or What’s App.  There is a landline for incoming and local calls.  The internet here is not fast but is adequate for most tasks.

A travel cot, high chair and fireguard are available on request.

Debbie and David are great at communicating and very welcoming, kind and proactive hosts. Lovely home made Welsh cakes, Bara brith, milk, tea, coffee and eggs from their hens are supplied on arrival.
They have lovingly restored The Dairy into a stunning and beautifully equipped holiday home with a very attractive living area overlooking their field of Devon Red cattle with the sea in the distance.
High quality appliances, comfortable beds, a spacious shower room and use of extra facilities make the accommodation for four very pleasant. There is also an adjacent patio, fenced, grassy garden, generous parking area, and everything you’d need to enhance your holiday.
Beautiful landscape and area. Would love to return.

We (2 adults & 1 dog) stayed for 5 nights at The Dairy on Debbie & David’s farm. The farm is a little remote and offers plenty of peace and quiet for relaxation. The welcome package was put together with a lot of love by Debbie and the view from the living room/terrace is indescribably beautiful.
The kitchen is equipped with everything you need and the bathroom is also modern and clean.
We felt very comfortable and can recommend the accommodation to everyone. Also a great place for dog owners. The garden is fenced, there is a dog blanket and treats. And you can walk directly from the property to the coast (about 10 minutes) and from there you can take various walks and hikes. Debbie & David are very friendly and helpful. May 2024

We already knew the area but have never had such a wonderful view of the sea before. The Dairy was warm and comfortable and extremely well equipped. We could reach the coast path within minutes. Best of all, we had a lovely welcome (and welcome pack) from Debbie and David, who were friendly and very knowledgeable about the local area. November 2023

Special memories were made during our stay at Treathro, it is the most beautiful place. The Dairy will be hard, if not impossible, to beat, so much thought has gone into every detail and it was a joy to return to at the end of each day. And then there’s the wonderful view…
But it was the farm itself which will live long in our hearts, watching the ewes with their lambs at every possible moment, seeing Debbie and David’s care and passion for their animals whilst feeling that their land is totally safe in their hands.
Thank you Debbie and David for giving us the break we needed and thank you for being so warm and welcoming; it was such a privilege to meet you. May 2023

What a gem! We were looking for a secluded getaway for a week and The Dairy exceeded expectations. When you crest the hill down to Treathro Farm you won’t believe your eyes. It’s a working farm, off the beaten track and very remote. Just sitting in bed drinking coffee felt special with views from both sides of the bedroom. The attention to detail really shows the care that’s been taken in this conversion, with a colour scheme of blues, greys and greens that tone with the surrounding landscape. We loved the wool blankets, made at the local mill, so much that we bought one for ourselves. We alternated bracing coastal walks direct from the accommodation with sitting by the log fire, staring out the window at the incredible view: sheep, cows, horses, and the infinite sea. Debbie and David are wonderful hosts and we really enjoyed the farm tour (and steak!). We plan to come back in future with friends and family.

The Dairy at Treathro Farm is stylish, warm and impeccably clean. Clearly no expense has been spared on the thoughtful and sympathetic conversion, and everything you could possibly need is provided to a remarkably high standard.
A log burner with fuel, underfloor heating, and homemade treats and amenities (I’ve just finished Debbie’s delicious fruit loaf!) make for an exceptionally comfortable stay.
David & Debbie are charming and engaging hosts – it was a pleasure and a privilege to meet and stay with them. At Treathro you feel like you are visiting a stylish friend’s luxurious guest suite – this place has a depth of comfort and convenience which is so rare to find.
If you are planning a trip to Pembrokeshire, look no further. It is well worth the extra few miles to reach this breathtaking coastal setting (the the starriest night sky I’ve ever seen!). Even in the snow and ice the journey was easygoing (and very pretty). I shall certainly be returning, reminiscing and recommending! December 2022

“The area is beautiful and the coastline stunning, especially if you are keen to walk and are well equipped. Debbie and David prepared the Dairy with dedication. They clearly cared about our stay and were very engaged. They were available to help but are not intrusive and we had all home comforts we could possibly want. They even treated us to a farm tour which was fascinating for novices like us and was a clear highlight. Congratulations to them both. We highly recommend this accommodation and location.” Stephen, November 2022

“Wow, such a beautiful place to get away from everything. The views were amazing! We were very lucky with the weather, blue sunny skies which meant we could see out to sea. My little girl loved sitting on the chair looking out to the cows & sheep every day. The Dairy is everything as described, & more! It has been done up to a high spec, everything you needed was there. What was so lovely was the little touches like a rabbit teddy in the travel cot, baby nightlight, baby changing mat & bin etc & for the older ones, tasty homemade treats! Debbie & David were perfect hosts, let my little girl feed the chickens, go in to see the sheep & cows. We’ve just got back & already looking to book up for next year.” Hayley, October 2022

“My sister and I had a fantastic holiday at Treathro Farm. The Dairy is exceptionally well equipped, comfortable and warm, with plentiful hot water. It has the most stunning view imaginable from the living room/kitchen – vast skies, the sea, Strumble Head lighthouse, and in the foreground, a flock of sheep munching away in green green pasture. The coast path is really close by, leading to magnificent views of rugged cliffs, huge sea- and skyscapes, and the coastline stretching out ahead. The whole area is utterly beautiful, crisscrossed by footpaths with amazing views, and we will certainly be returning to this Pembrokeshire idyll. Debbie & David are fantastic hosts, they have thought of everything, communication with them was great, all round a great big thank you to you both!” Marigold, September 2022

“We absolutely loved our stay, such a great place to unwind and enjoy the beautiful walks surrounding the dairy. We loved our daily walks along the costal path, trying to spot the wild ponies. My children will never forget seeing all of the seals in the bay with their babies. The Dairy is light and airy with plenty of room. The view from the living room is absolutely stunning. Debbie and David provided way more than we expected within the property and Debbie’s welsh cakes were amazing! Comfy beds, with all mod cons. We couldn’t ask for more.

The view from the terrace is gorgeous. It is so quiet and peaceful there! You can walk directly to the coastal path from there : you are on the cliffs in ten minutes. “A superb place to stay! We couldn’t fault it, everything is as described. The well appreciated welcombe pack included delicious Bara Brith and Welsh cakes. The only noise you hear is from nature. David gave us a couple of walking routes which we did both and thoroughly enjoyed them. The private track gives access to the coastal path where you can easily reach the lighthouse and also watch the sunset. At the top of our list for a return visit next year.” Steven, April 2022

“This is a lovely property – stunning location and lives up to all the pictures. Although an old building, it has been completely newly fitted out inside – everything to a high standard, including the sub-floor heating system which kept us really warm in March. The location is great for access to the coastal path and walking, and there are lovely views down to the Strumble Head light and the sea. Debbie and David were very friendly and helpful hosts – they allowed us to come and see a lamb being born in the barn. I could not recommend more highly.” Hilary, March 2022

The most breathtaking views in an idyllic setting. The barn conversion is outfitted to a high standard and provides anything you need for a confortable and relaxing stay, The hosts are welcoming, friendly, and conscientious. I stayed for 3.5 weeks and there were no issues. The barn is quiet, cozy, and well insulated. The under floor heating was wonderful. Access to the coastal path is just a short walk, but the views go on for miles. This is a great location for anyone exploring the Pembrokeshire coast or western Wales. Amenities are found within a 15 minute drive in either direction, including groceries and petrol. There are a couple of wool mills nearby that are worth visiting. After staying on the farm, I felt I had been somewhere special. Wonderful stay. Highly recommend. Dec 2021

Our stay at the Dairy was absolutely wonderful, the location is second to none, the coastal path is literally 10 mins walk away, which we enjoyed daily with our dog Mabel. The views from the Dairy were stunning and as expected, you can even see the lighthouse at Strumble Head. This area of Pembrokeshire is truly beautiful. The accommodation is extremely well equipped, the beds are VERY comfortable and the shower incredibly powerful! Debbie & David were great hosts, very welcoming and friendly. Fantastic accommodation is a picturesque rural setting. Can’t fault the accommodation, location or the hosts. It was blissfully quiet at night, we could walk our dog from the accommodation to the coastal path in 10 minutes. The property overlooks a field of sheep, but your garden area is securely pinned in so you dog can be free to have a Welsh stand off with the sheep each morning. The property is recently renovated with everything you need and all in perfect working order. Debbie and dave were great hosts, happy to chat to you and tell you about their experience, whilst also leaving you to enjoy the setting. Fully enjoyed our stay on a dramatic and beautiful coastline. Thanks guys, we loved it. June 2021

It’s hard to describe how stunning this place is. I wish I didn’t have to leave. With epic of views of the lighthouse, sea, animals and sky. Several walks from the door. The coastal path is right there and just the most gorgeous and magical stretch of land. Coastal ponies. The weather changes and it’s like a new place daily. The dairy is so beautifully designed as well. I was more than comfortable and was inspired to write some music. The welcome basket rules and I loved the bara brith bread and homemade jam! “Wow, what a great spot.We had a lovely weekend in Debbie and David’s old dairy on the farm. The building has been restored to keep its character and create a lovely, comfortable place to stay with an amazing view over the fields to the sea. We wanted to explore this beautiful part of Wales and walk part of the coast path and it was the perfect spot. It was easy to get to the coast path and we walked to the Strumble Head lighthouse on Saturday and to a very tasty cafe in a woollen mill on Sunday, sadly the mill only works on weekdays but we still enjoyed a lovely lunch. We enjoyed our chats with Debbie and David, they gave us lots of useful info but didn’t intrude on our break. They pointed us in the direction of the local fish and chip shop in Fishguard which has very deservedly been nominated as one of the top ten in the UK! Everything was as described in the Airbnb post and better. We’ll be back.” A & R, Oct 2019
