It has been a great experience seeing all the new calves and lambs being born with very few problems. Let’s hope it is an omen for next year! We now have a total of 6 calves (2 bull calves and 4 heifer calves). We will be keeping all the calves for about 2 years...

Just love this photo of all the boys! From back coming forwards we have David, Tim, Kev and Trevor on the right. You really can see the difference in the two breeds of ram. We have been using Texel Trev as our ram so far, the cross with the Lleyn ewes works well putting a bit of meat on the lambs whilst not causing problems with lambing (so far!). However we now need to build up our pedigree breeding flock of Lleyn ewes so earlier this year we bought Kev Lleyn, who as you can see is of a rather finer build! They are also totally different in character -Trev is a bit of a brute and loves nothing more than a bit of rough and tumble interspersed with a fierce back scratch. Kev meanwhile is the quiet sensitive type who loves a gentle stroke of the nose! No surprise who is the dominant ram! So pleased with how our calves are doing this year. This is one of our Forde Abbey heifers bought last year. This is her first calf and she is proving a wonderful mum. Busy busy busy making haylage whilst the sun shines!! The cows and sheep are 100% grass fed throughout the whole year - this is their winter diet. It smells divine once the bales are opened after a few months fermenting.....they all love it. Looks so innocent but this is the leader of the escape team, probably plotting his next escape! Always first through any fencing or gates followed close behind by his crew! He is one of our bottle fed lambs who I can only describe as an independent thinker!! Such trouble but so gorgeous, our Lleyn/Texel lambs are doing really well just on grass.
