We noticed that Nora, the Red Devon matriarch was limping a little and realised she had a split in one of her hooves, and one was slightly overgrown.  On talking to others we realised we should be having their hooves checked fairly regularly so contacted a local cattle foot trimmer, Raymond from West Wales Hoof Care.  His visit was quite a revelation as several of the cows needed attention as did Tim the bull.  Having sore feet impacts on their ability to graze comfortably and obviously affects Tim’s activities when in with the girls!  Raymond arrived with a very interesting contraption which looked like something from a torture chamber, however this was just to give him access to the hooves safely with the least stress to the cows possible.
